I am excited to get to House #10 of 'Will you be My Neighbor', and I have a SUPER deal at the end!
Number 10 is super fun with the star. For those not adding the birds, this is the block before I added mine.
Personally I love that I get to add another bird, I feel SPRING around the corner, the Robins and all kind of other birds have been showing up at my feeders.. yeah for spring!
I wanted to share a few things about applique
A few tips from my applique book
- I usually stitch with 50wt Aurifil, which is the same weight I piece with so it's very economical to collect that weight as you can use it for piecing, applique and machine quilting.
- I use very light weight, easy to open and close scissors. This is my favorite pair. I recommend having GREAT tools that are ergonomic, and these are it
- Since I cut the center out of my shapes before fusing, I can trace the beak inside (step by step photos of that in my book)
- When I audition thread, one strand across the fabric lets me see it perfectly. That peachy orange is great on the pinkish red.. who knew!
I wanted to show what my angled corners look like, in my book I have step by step photos on how to do this and inside curves.
- My Applique Book - If you have your Sew Sampler discount code, it works on my books!
- Scissors I use, if sold out get them HERE
- heat n bond lite, if sold out get HERE
- Aurifil 50 wt single spools, my thread kits.. i have several options!

I did a bit of fussy cutting for the stem on this one...
In the full quilt the first stem is not centered.. trying to decide it if bothers me enough to change it.. see below.. would you change it?
Click the photo to see a larger image!
I have a 2nd version of this underway. I decide to concentrate on finishing the Christmas fabric first. THEN I'll reboot this sew along with the other fabric. One of the quilts is a gift, I'll have to decide which version... mmmm ... wonder which it will be?
I want to be sure everyone has a chance to own these great irons! If you have been waiting on the pink one, it's back in stock!
I did a video and article about it HERE
The color differences are
- Yellow & Pink are IDENTICAL except color
- Blue is less expensive, so the 20% off is fantastic. It has these differences
- 8'6" cord instead of 12'
- Stainless Steal soleplate instead of Chomium soleplate
- 8 min auto shut off instead of 30 min with the pink & yellow
