Each Block in Grandma's Kitchen will be a memory or event. And this week we talk about 'The Kitchen' itself....
This week is all about The Kitchen! My maternal grandma, Na-Na, had what she called 'Half a Modern Kitchen'. She also had Half a Modern bathroom but a series called Grandma's Bathroom just didn't seem.. well.. what I wanted to do.. ha!
In my story in the pattern I explain WHY she called her kitchen that.
The block is a take on tiles. Back-splashes, floors, maybe on a table trivet. Somewhere there is usually tile work in a kitchen. That is the memory from my Na-Na's her tiles.
I want you to think about your grandma's kitchen and what item really stands out. Maybe a new fridge, a great stove, a bread box or tile work. Did she or grandpa have certain mugs, or places to sit.. what is that ONE THING that really stands out. Mine is Na-Na's 'Half a Modern'.
Samplers are so fun as you make just one block. BUT you might be thinking.. how DOES that look in repeat? The power of this block is in repeat. I have this bonus layout in the pattern for you.. plus the design page to do color choices!
Here is my family portrait! I am resisting the urge to get more of the darker reddish pink in here. There are not that many FQs of those in the bundle. I may have to break down and add some from my stash. That is how this works.. as I go along the quilt might just NEED something else.
